自然與人工智能、社交紐帶與孤獨疏離、藝術與野蠻、宅居的安全感與出行的焦慮、日益膨脹的消費狂熱與審慎節(jié)制,大量人口流動遷徙帶來的漂移式住行方式……對于城市居住者而言,這是一個最好的時代,也是一個最壞的時代。從關懷的角度思考城市現(xiàn)象,藝術家常常鼓勵人們對規(guī)則標準做出詩意的修補,卻意外地讓人獲得安全的心靈歸屬感。我們強調(diào)關系的內(nèi)在品質(zhì),而不僅僅是理性和標準化的衡量方法。在與社會關系的修正中,克己修身不僅是社交禮節(jié),也是對社會的微妙本質(zhì)形成的深度關注。這說明,隨著時代的發(fā)展,人的價值觀已經(jīng)發(fā)生變化,幸福也呈現(xiàn)出不同的形態(tài),物質(zhì)的滿足,已不是幸福的最高體現(xiàn),人們更多地追求簡約的自我,享受精神的愉悅。這種自由選擇幸福的新消費主義,也許才是"他們+"組合"新消費時代"所要闡釋的真諦。
For urban inhabitants, this is the best era and the worst: nature and scientific innovations, social interaction and alienation, liberal civilization and barbarism, indoor comfort and commute pressure, consumption mania and abstinence, migrations of choice and anomic dislocation…all of these social concerns shape our lives, livelihoods, life-stages, and lifestyles. Instead of surrendering to ceaseless social and cultural change, artists often encourage people to treat restrains in social relations with poetic gaze, and surprisingly illuminate our insight: We tend to emphasize the intrinsic quality of relationships, not only using rational and standardized methods of measurement. In the correction of social relations, self-restraint is not only a social etiquette, but also a deep concern for the formation of the subtle nature of society. Quality of life frames the way we enhance our lives and legitimate social change today. Material affluence is no longer the highest form of happiness, more and more people are following voluntary simplicity and true spiritual pleasure. TAMEN+ artworks lead us to interpret the notion of New Consumption Times-liberally pursuing happiness with freedom of choice.

Lai Shengyu, born in 1978, got his Bachelor Degree of Fine Art (Print-making Department) in Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2001, and his Master Degree in 2004.
