Life with Fish
“Life with Fish – Haiqing Li Personal Painting Exhibition” features a comprehensive collection of Artist Li’s paintings between 2007 and 2009. Fish, in Li’s perspective, is an artistic language. The entire “Life with Fish” series was inspired by various colorful and distinctively characteristic fish in the real life. Li’s art offers refreshing visual appreciation, and also reflects the unique presentational style of the contemporary young artists.
Li utilizes creative colors and her vibrant ingenuity, to express her boundless and wild mind. Influenced by her unique perspective towards life, she likes to inject little subjective explanation in her art and leaves abundant freedom for audience’ interpretation. The joyful vitality portrayed in Li’s modest and sometimes glamorous works reveals this unique artistic perspective.
In Li’s works, different scenes bring you the kind of infatuation like “a drop of sadness in the sunshine”. The worlds of the girl and the fish glide into each other, bringing you a wider and more colorful realm as if we had returned into the wombs and hid in deep water, dreaming of a fascinating and mysterious wonderland, and dreaming of anything at all that brought joy to our lives. In Li’s words, this is a “state of being”.
August Osmanthus. The osmanthus fragrance fills Shanghai in August. Closing our eyes, it feels as if the petals were floating in the air, within just an arm’s reach. We wish to share the happiness with the fish… For the grace, we delight; for the wishes, we feel sad.
Trace. Rose blossom has passed its peak and starts to fall. The artist symbolizes roses as sentiment. The sentiment between people resembles water droplets from the flowers falling on the leaves and then down onto the ground, leaving an inevitable trace.
Disappear. The girl dips her head into the water and tries to trace the fish, and only find the fish have disappeared. They are supposed to be in the water; however the water has seen them gone.
Fishing seems to tell us, although facing the restless reality, we are still able to enjoy ample choices and possibilities in this serenity.
