ART LABOR畫(huà)廊于2006年6月在上海成立。畫(huà)廊的第一個(gè)藝術(shù)空間在2006年10月開(kāi)幕，目前作為國(guó)內(nèi)外藝術(shù)家的工作室。為許多來(lái)海內(nèi)外的藝術(shù)家居住以及工作提供便利。
 
    畫(huà)廊的主要宗旨，是展示來(lái)自海內(nèi)外具有獨(dú)立原創(chuàng)精神藝術(shù)家的現(xiàn)代藝術(shù)作品。我們始終渴求東方世界有某種內(nèi)在關(guān)聯(lián)的國(guó)外藝術(shù)家的作品，以及具有世界視角的中國(guó)藝術(shù)家。
 
    我們的畫(huà)廊位于上海市中心，36-10永嘉路，總面積170平方米由兩個(gè)樓層組成。畫(huà)廊的空間遵循靈活、可變的宗旨，根據(jù)藝術(shù)家的繪畫(huà)、攝影、影像或者是裝置藝術(shù)對(duì)于空間以及燈光的不同需求，可以隨意移動(dòng)和更換空間的移動(dòng)墻和燈光。

    ART LABOR is a contemporary gallery located in the former French Concession area of central Shanghai, opened by Canadian director Martin Kemble, with an independent and international program, and a real concern for our artists and their work. Our emphasis is on originality and high quality of production in all media, with ethical representation and marketing. We are based in Shanghai because it is fast becoming the center of artistic creation and financial power in Asia.
 

    At ART LABOR we are curious about Shanghai’s new identity. Our main objective is to promote the artistic pursuit of answers to what this identity is and what it will become. ART LABOR supports artists who do not necessarily require a national identity, a label on their production, artists which are comfortable or uncomfortable in their own skin, equals in any artistic scene in the world today.

    Because we love China, we decided to set up our self-funded gallery in Shanghai! However, at ART LABOR we see our artists first and simply as artists, free of national brand. We intend to exhibit original works and bring some fresh air into a climate where art has become a bit overly familiar and obvious to the habituated observer of the Chinese art scene.

    The artists we represent are approximately half Chinese and half of other countries… British, Austrian, Canadian, Japanese, etc. We seek artists making truly original and meaningful work, whether intellectually, emotionally effecting or simply aesthetically pleasing.

    Aside from our modifiable gallery space, we have a 300 m2 artist residence and work space in the suburbs of the city, and will assist artists from all over the world to live and create in Shanghai. We are currently accepting submissions. Please email with jpegs.
