Misha Gordin生于1946年，第二次世界大戰(zhàn)以后的第一年。Misha Gordin的父母親在困難中存活了下來，回到了蘇聯(lián)占領(lǐng)下的里加。并在講俄語的拉脫維亞長大，俄羅斯文化對Misha Gordin影響根深蒂固。
Misha Gordin在19歲時開始從事攝影，當(dāng)時Misha Gordin的初衷是為了創(chuàng)作自己的風(fēng)格和觀點。同時他也從事過人像攝影并拍攝了一些紀(jì)實照片，但很快意識到這種結(jié)果并不能讓他感到滿意。于是Misha Gordin將自己的相機(jī)擱置在一旁，開始集中精力閱讀(Dostoevsky, Bulgakov)和電影攝影藝術(shù)(Tarkovsky, Parajanov)。
Misha Gordin一直堅持尋求一種使用攝影手段來表達(dá)個人感情和想法的方式。他認(rèn)為概念攝影是一種更高形式的藝術(shù)表達(dá)，可以更加完美地將理念融入到作品中去，將攝影推向了與繪畫、詩歌、音樂以及雕塑相同的水平上。
Misha Gordin稱自己的創(chuàng)作為“概念攝影”。他對反映生活毫無興趣，對他來說，攝影就是通過虛構(gòu)場景來表達(dá)自己的觀念和想法的工具。他對苦難與拯救的關(guān)注，顯然來自早年經(jīng)歷和東正教的影響。他的近作《群體》里，他對集體的屬性做了嚴(yán)峻的反思。一群失去個性的人聚集在一起，或者蒙面，或者身上標(biāo)記相同的記號，動作一致地勞動、聆聽、哭泣、祈禱、跪拜，還不約而同地蜷縮進(jìn)各自的小箱子。集體是思想之?dāng)场Ｔ谶@樣的組織中，任何猶豫和懷疑，都將立刻被辨認(rèn)，撲滅。他早年的作品，如《呼喊》系列，人物都埋在地里只剩一顆頭顱。頭顱上的泥漿已經(jīng)干裂，呈現(xiàn)一種深沉的悲劇性。他們的額頭刺著數(shù)字；他們的臉上爬著蜥蜴；他們的眼睛被黑布蒙住；而他們的嘴被捂緊，被縫合，被纖細(xì)的鐵絲緊縛。事實上，他們無法呼喊，他們被奪走了聲音。另一個《doubt》系列，只剩一條腿的殘疾人獨立于深夜的曠野，他們總是孤獨的，低著頭，或者背負(fù)嬰兒，或者懷抱石頭，上身不是纏著漁網(wǎng)，就是捆著麻繩，鎖著鐵鏈。Misha Gordin描繪了一種陷于生存悲劇之中的人類絕境。
